This new book from authors Bob Kegan and Lisa Lahey is a fantastic follow-up read to the HBR article referenced in my previous post: Why Traditional Performance Reviews Don’t Work. The book explores the practices of Deliberately Developmental Organizations (DDOs), businesses in which support of employees’ developmental is woven into the daily fabric of working life and the company’s regular operations, daily routines and conversations.
The book explores the world of Bridgewater, a company also called out in the HBR article and one that I have worked with personally. While the HBR article merely brushes the surface of this company’s work to support development, “An Everyone Culture” dives deeper into their practices and methods of feedback from a developmental point of view. If you’re interested in a different perspective on the role of feedback in the workplace, this book is for you.
